This dress was made over the course of a day and a half, at the 2013 American Sewing Expo for the Passion for Fashion competition. The assignment was to make a red carpet look for an up and coming music artist to wear to an awards show. We then had to choose one album cover (from a selection of 12) to serve as our individual inspiration. I chose the “Saturday Night Fever” soundtrack. This dress placed in the top 6 of the 12 looks that evening.
This dress was constructed for an online contest hosted by the PatternReview website. It was a “knock-off” challenge, where we needed to reconstruct our own version of a designer’s look. I had seen this black and white Bebe dress in a magazine and loved it, so it was the perfect opportunity to make it a reality, and finished in 3rd place.
Haberman Fabrics (Royal Oak, Michigan) hosted a “Luxe Sweatshirt Challenge” in November, 2013. My wool and lurex/tweed combination won 1st place!
